Creative and all that jazz...

Check this out....

I mean the colours and the creativity...wow. It stirs something in my soul, something I don't really have time to answer right now but I feel like there will be a time for this too, as season for my soul as it were.

Seasons. It's something I feel God has been speaking to me about. There will be time for my stuff, time to learn new things and explore my creative side, time to sit and visit and time for less "dirt-under-your fingernails" and "laundry by the truck load" kind of tasks.

I can wait! but at the same time I'm learning to appreciate the season I'm in (or I pray I am). The time of chubby cheeks and sticky fingers, of boys on the cusp of manhood and houses on the brink craziness. There's joy here in the confusion and chaos and mess too!

Oh and I wanted to share this. I adjusted my mil's famous (well to us anyway) chocolate cake recipe to make it lower fat and moist at the same time. It's pretty yummy! If you don't have spelt flour just use whole wheat or white. It will still be amazing!

Wickedly Delish Choc Cake

1 cup spelt flour
3/4 cup white flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

sift together and add:
2 eggs
1 cup strong coffee
1 cup sour milk
1 cup apple sauce
1 tsp vanilla

mix until all smooth and bake at 350 for 30-40 mins

I use a cream cheese icing but it's up to you:)

This is what we'll be having for dessert tonight....mmmmmmmmmmmm!

I was reading about the season's thing this year too, actually I think it was in the Well Trained Mind. It just resonated in my soul. Sometimes it is difficult to be content where we are, to not wish for the next season. But we are where we are, right where God wants us and this season passes so quickly. But there are definitely wonderful seasons to come. I am looking forward to them while trying to give all I have to the one where I am.
I am plodding along here with you dear friend. I love that our hearts are travelling similar roads, that we are connected by these things, even as so many miles separate us.
the cake sounds delish, I will have to try it! I made peach, strawberry, blueberry pie today for Brent's birthday, I will pass on your wishes, thanks!

So I was reading your post and then I got to the recipe and everything I was going to say flew out of my head. Because that sounds gooooood to someone supposedly on a diet! Thanks for sharing... :)

I wasn't having any real cravings till I read your cake recipe. NOW I am. :)
And like the commenter before, whatever I was going to say - its all gone from my head.

I know you wrote something besides the chocolate cake recipe, but it's all I can think about. I want cake. Can you send me some leftovers? Maybe I'll make this for our family reunion! Sounds so good!

Sandi at Portobello Pixie is awesome. I love her fabric.

It is really surreal to have "known" her before she started designing fabric. She really has a keen eye for what works, and what will be desirable for the market she is targeting.

Wow, this recipe looks unique and yummy! I'm with you. I'm trying to enjoy this messy time of life (and most of the time I succeed), but I also look forward the more peaceful, less messy time!

Be well - Sniz

Thanks for the link. The fabrics are cute, but I loved the music. I hadn't heard the soundtrack to Pride and Prejudice before and it's just so stirring.

I understand what you mean about seasons too. I've heard so many people wish their kids were older, meeting milestones earlier. I think since I came to motherhood so much later than I wanted to I am more with you, trying to enjoy the season I'm in. I'll be lucky to have another baby, so sometimes it's like every first is also a last and I want them to grow up slowly.

I admit sometimes it's hard to cherish everything though, like my 3-year-old's WHINING, but I try. I don't think I will miss the whining though. Really.
