Two days in a row??!!

I surprise even myself sometimes!

I'm on a Homeschooling Yahoo email list for our area and this video came through today:

Honestly, I don't usually take the time to watch videos that people send me. I know, but I'm just lazy that way!
This was was well worth it. Probably because it made me feel better. We always joke that we're the crazy house and people need to sign a waver in order to play here but now I don't feel so bad! It's amazing to me that my kids rarely get hurt other than the minor cuts and scrapes that you come to expect from childhood.
I'm a great believer in kids being able to try things for themselves, even slightly unsafe things. I haven't however, ever let them drive the car. Seriously, it's on the video!!

Oh and thank you all for your great words of encouragement to me! I'm being reminded that I need to step outside myself and reach out to others. I think when I'm lonely or sad or just having one of those days, taking my eyes off myself and putting them on someone else, although not my natural reaction is the best thing to do. See I'm growing up already!!
It's always a risk isn't it? to be vulnerable and to be "real". I believe God honors our attempts to peal off the masks we all wear. I like to be the strong one, the one giving the advice. It's hard for me to take encouragement and be vulnerable in this way.

...and in other news: For those of you who've been asking, my next run is April 20th. The Sunrun which is being touted as the second largest 10 km in North America. It should be fun! I'm a bit nervous because I haven't had the time to run the distances I should but I think the pace will be slow because of all the people so it should be fine. Wish us luck!!

Here we are...me and my running bff's...(my sil and her sil. You guys rock!)

Thank you for visiting, and commenting on my blog. I am having fun exploring yours too. I comment here because the TED stuff is so wonderful. Id you home school the topics/presenters there are a first rate place to start learning BIG. I don't know if his work is still on TED - but do check out Gregory Colbert's Ashes and Snow website. The imagery and beauty he captures are amazing.
Thanks again for stopping by.

Thanks for finding my blog...I like when new people visit! YAY!

Great video. I had to watch it spurts (3 children)...but I totally believe in letting them explore. Too bad all my appliances are new...that would be so fun to rip apart my oven!

I just started up running again...good to see other moms really enjoy it too!

Shay you were looking for some programming resources for Levi....This "alice" looks right up his alley (this came from another list I'm on)

I was watching 20/20 tonight about Randy Pausch and his last lecture which has now been extended to a book. If you have never heard his lecture, please take some time and watch it with your family. It is awesome. You can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo

Anyway, on the program the mentioned a free program you download for computer programming and I wanted to share it here. Here is the link: http://www.alice.org/
It is FREE educational software that teaches students computer programming in a 3D environment.

I have to ask you something personal.

We're on several homeschool group e-mail lists. Do you ever look at the huge grammar/spelling mistakes the same people constantly make when typing out a response and wonder about them? Do you ever sigh when the e-mail is about if you are or are not planning to attend an event and people use the reply button to talk about why they can't come because they have diarrhea and their dog is in heat and its the perfect time to breed her and the moon is positioned in Uranus which means they can't leave the house...blah, blah, blah, when all that is required is a simple YES or a NO?

Maybe I'm just rude that way.

(I make a lot of mistakes when I type stuff. I make sure to send replies to the original e-mailer instead of to the group to avoid judging eyes. :)

We're doing a lot of curriculum on the computer this year because we got burned out on traditional stuff.

It helps.

That's a really interesting video. I really liked it. I'm like you...I have never been one to be "too safe" with my kids. But the taking apart of the appliances was one I hadn't thought of before, but is a great idea. I know our son would LOVE it!
(And learn a lot.)

Good luck on your run, Shay! It's on my daughter's birthday, so I won't forget the date. I'll be thinking of you.

"It's always a risk isn't it? to be vulnerable and to be "real"." -- ALWAYS a risk, but so worth it. I wouldn't want to be anything less than real. That's everything to me. :)

This was good inspiration for me. I am definitely guilty of holding my kids back sometimes. But, in my case, it isn't usually because of safety but because I don't want to deal with the mess!! :)

I did think of you though this weekend when I looked out in my backyard and saw my son and his friend on the roof of our shed. Normally I would have freaked, but I laughed instead. However, I did go out and calmly tell them they needed to get down. LOL

I feel like I have been seriously lacking in reading my favourite blogs and writing in my own blog. I feel like life is seriously getting away from me these days. Sometimes more than I can handle. I just keep telling myself that we just need to make it to the end of the school year and we will be home free. 2.5 more months and that is it. Seriously, I often wonder if I will make it though.

Anyway, sorry for not reading as much as I should be lately. :o(
