yet another New Year post and other random stuff...

Here's a pic me and the kids with my mom and dad for Christmas dinner.
I'm not sure where my bro was ... hubby is the super duper photographer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Have I told you how much I love the new year?

I feel the same way when I get a new book or make a new friend. It's all shiny and new and anything is possible. Because it's a new year I can loose 20 lbs, or make a new great habit or learn a new language or because fabulously rich. ha ha. Of course these things aren't going to happen and if I'm truthful I don't even want them too but it's just the possibility of it all. It's like leaving for a holiday, getting up early and getting into the car. I'm all tingly with the expectation of it all:)

I love it! Obviously I'm one of those cup is half full people so please bare with me!

What brought all this delayed happiness on you ask? Well, I feel like our real 2008 is finally starting. Hubby and I try to go out on New Years Eve and write down our family and personal goals for the year, have some yummy food and some great uninterrupted talk (with 4 kids this is harder to come by they you might think). Since we moved here, nearer to family, my holiday has become less about Kev and I as a couple and more about me focusing on our company and hosting various events. I love it but it leaves very little time for planning and talking. We also don't spend the evening alone anymore. We're adjusting our traditions so....

Today we went out for sushi at lunch and did our pow wow ... and my mom and dad finally left to go home. As much as I love my mom and dad, it's great to be just us again after two weeks of company and events. Here's hoping we can get the kids back into the habit of going to bed and getting up at regular times....okay and myself too!

One of my personal goals this year to to run at least 2 - 10 km races. I've managed in all the craziness to maintain my running schedule so of that I'm very proud.

What are your New Year traditions? Do you set goals?
I hate the whole resolution thing. I was never good at keeping them and find goals much friendlier. I'm sure it's just semantics; please don't burst my bubble!

First of all - I LOVE that someone else is so positive!! I try to be that way. Sometimes its harder than others. But I do try.

Second - fab looking family.

Third - I LOVE the stained glass hanging. Love it. The house we were going to buy before this one had similar cut-outs in the wall and I always wondered what would go there and look "right". Now I know!!

Here's to a stupendous 2008 to you and yours!!!

I agree Shay, I prefer goals to resolutions. Resolutions seem negative because the majority of us don't keep them. But goals seem attainable and as long as your moving forward your not going backwards, right? Hubby and I had a pow wow as well and we've decided to do more reading. You know the kind of reading that makes you grow. Anyways love that you are posting more often. Look forward to checking in more often.

Hi, Shay!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment today! (actually, that would be yesterday as it is nearly 12:30 am now) My kids are still awake and so am I, we are so mixed up it's not funny! I'm just surprised my husband hasn't come out of the bedroom to yell at all of us and tell us we're making too much noise. :) I was just reading some of your posts, you have a beautiful family and home! Sounds (and looks) like you all had a very nice holiday season. Hope you have a great New Year, and best wishes on making those marathons happen! (I'm very impressed that you are running even though it's freezing outside, you're a better woman than I am!) :)

My goal, is to not set goals I won't follow through with.

That aside, my only goal this year is a financial one. Since I have gone back to work, MY goal is to pay off my husbands truck this year, one full year (or more) ahead of schedule.

It is part of a bigger plan, but when I look at the entire plan it is just seems so unattainable so I have to break it down into small steps.

The ultimate goal is to begin building our house, on the (now completely paid for) property that has spent nearly 11 years sitting eagerly awaiting it, awaiting the 2 young eager lovebirds who had such incredible plans to build their dream home, get married and start a family, those 2 lovebirds who are now married and have a family, and own A house but still don't have "the" house.

Secondary to that is the goal of reaching the first goal while the kids are still in the primary grades, to move into the house while the kids are still young enough to "grow up" in it, to build traditions in it, and to "come home" to when THEY grow up.

It's the 5 year plan, but I'm only looking at year one. The latter 4 years just seem so far away.

Oh, I also want to be more diligent about keeping up with my house. And encouraging Hubbs to keep up his part while I am at work.

I want to be better about making daily lists for myself and sticking to them. I don't care what anyone says about New Year's Resolutions. It just cannot be a bad thing to want to do something better...or to stop doing something you shouldn't do, etc.

I've also decided that I'm no longer going to post comments on blogs that originate outside of the United States. Wait....crap. Oh well, at least I can still focus on my first resolution.

Happy New Year!!
I think I'm going to go with you and set "goals" instead of resolutions! Goals.......much much more friendlier!
Way to be positive!

Oh your gorgeous family looks terrific around the lovely table you set! Gorg!
I can't wait to take a few moments for Brent and I tonight and get away from the hustle and bustle and talk about our year and goals as well.
Goals are so much more positive, I totally agree.
One of my goals for this year is to purposefully nurture my friendships. Like with you, we miss our friend-family so much! Birthdays are not the same without you, can't wait to see you all again.

I can't believe you find the time to run...and with the holidays too! I am envious. Right now I just want a nap. Thanks for visiting me today, you have a wonderful family- I will be back to read more!

I love a new year too - and always go into it with such hope and promise. I have started out slow this year with getting going - but I will, once the kids get back in school next week. Have a good day and I'll see you later. Kellan

I am hoping to run 15 km this year. Not necessarily in a race. But I have never run more than 10k, so that would be my goal.

I love that you two work together to set family goals. My hubster and I have not done that -- we usually set personal goals instead, but I am going to suggest it to him right now.

Beautiful picture. Look at all those happy faces :)

I don't do the New Year's resolution thing. Maybe other times of the year, but all the sugar from Christmas makes my will too weak to stick to anything of value.

Thanks for visiting my site and questioning my ability to do fairly even ponytails.

Someday I will figure out how to do a French Braid. Maybe that can be a resolution.

Goal are so much better than resolutions...and more Godly too because they leave room for being human, something God made us. Humans with weaknesses that need God. We can't accomplish resolutions on our own power, but with God, we can work together to achieve goals, but not beat ourselves up with guilt if it takes longer than we want. Does that make sense? I very much fear that I'm rambling!

It's nice to see someone so positive. Props to you for that.

My resolutions are simple, and I wouldn't make them if I didn't plan to follow through with them: I'm going to lose the rest of the baby weight and try to keep my sanity in check.

Glad you found me, and I am going to link to you on my blog!

I feel the same way about the new year - anything could happen! Glad I'm not the only one who is like this. Good luck!

I'm giving up Pop Tarts. I tried to give up blogging but it was futile to resist!

Good luck to you on your newly set goals!

Wow, what a positive start to the new year!!!
I've never been big on resolutions, but the one thing I'm going to try to do is think more positively; I tend to be on the other side, more "half-empty", melancholy, sometimes miserable (just ask hubby!) grump if I'm in a funk. So this is something I will try to work on.
And another is to meet more blog friends - thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting!
Happy new year to you and your family... the pictures are all great, and your kids are just soooo precious!
